Hello winter in Melbourne!
For those of you fortunate enough to be in parts of the world where the sun is shining, lap it up! In my hometown the chill has set in and it’s cold. This, of course, doesn’t stop me getting out there to the farmer’s markets each weekend but a good coat is obligatory.
Although I may appear to have had a brief hiatus from writing, nothing could be further from the truth. Since the beginning of the year, I’ve hit the ground running and have barely had the time to take a breath. So much has been happening on the personal front as well as with Nutrition Darling commitments.
First’s first, let me tell you what I’ve been doing on the nutrition front. It’s been very exciting times. Here are a few things that have been happening:
- I’ve developed a new food product called a Nutrition Bomb . It came about after my struggles with my teenage daughter Lana who was leaving the house each morning without eating breakfast. No matter what I tried, she was never hungry and just didn’t feel like eating. It bothered me knowing she would spend an entire morning at school without any fuel in her stomach to draw from so I came up with this idea. I chose the ingredients carefully to ensure a wide variety of nutrients are being utilised – antioxidants, omega 3 & 6, proteins, magnesium, iron, zinc, calcium, and a myriad of other vitamins and minerals that are all particularly good for brain and energy functions in the body. The ingredients are also organic, raw, gluten and dairy free and vegan. The ‘bomb’ can be placed in a blender with a banana (or any other seasonal fruit – strawberries are amazing) and your choice of milk. It tastes like a chocolate milkshake only it’s healthy! I have four stores stocking it at the moment but am building on more every week!
- I’ve been busy writing mini E-books for everyone to use on their electronic devices. The idea behind it was to pick six fail-proof, delicious recipes and talk about why they are so amazing nutritionally. I’ve incorporated much of my Italian upbringing into each plate with ingredients that are seasonal and easy to obtain. - I’ve been giving more talks than ever this year! The focus has been on preconception right through to teenage years. I’ve been keeping up to date on all the latest research on what has shown to be the best foods when preparing for a baby and the appropriate lifestyle changes for both partners to ensure the best possible outcome. I’ve also had some great fun giving cooking classes to 8 – 10 year olds who are so much more open to trying foods if they are involved in making them and understanding where they come from.
- Finally I’ve been preparing for my trip to the US! My daughters and I will be traveling over at the beginning of August for our first overseas trip together. Its purpose is partly business for me. I’ll be checking out all the wonderful healthy wholefood stores and cafes in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Boston while blogging and creating clips for Youtube for all to see. On the personally front, my amazingly academic daughter Nina has been fortunate enough (with a lot of hard work too might I add) to have received a international scholarship as an undergraduate at Harvard University! As we are incredibly proud of her, Lana and I are going to be there during her orientation week and help her settle in before we come back to Australia in September.
As you can see, life has been very busy and I kind of like it that way. Much more will be happening on this blog soon. Till then… eat fresh!
